That’s what Australia’s National Energy Market is built on!

Structural separation and regulation of networks; and contestable competitive generation and retail. The NEM is an energy only market with 5 minute dispatch and settlement by AEMO.

As a resident of Texas, I’d like to clarify that only certain areas of Texas provide households with a choice of energy providers. Others (eg. Austin) give households no such choice. Power here is provided by the municipal electrical monopoly.
